CHIDORI String Quartet is one of Japan's foremost women's string quartets. Not limited to classical music, the ensemble captivates a wide audience with its diverse repertoire that transcends genres, including pop, film scores, and world music, all characterized by precise and harmonious performances. The Chaleur Saxophone Quartet formed in 2016. "Chaleur" means warmth in French, and the music they create is imbued with the members' desire to make music that conveys warmth. In the region of Yoshino, where the connection between people and nature is especially profound in Nara, the tones produced by four types of saxophones acquire warmth and depth, touching the hearts of listeners.

A performer who revives the sound of the ancient Asian instrument, the gong, and opens new realms of music and healing. Sho Miztani is an art artist, holds a master's degree in biomedical engineering, and is also a monk. The sound produced by skillfully manipulating a massive gong with a diameter of 152 cm evokes a sense of nostalgia, and even a feeling of reverence. Don't miss the opportunity to experience the vibrations of the gong in Yoshino, a sacred place of prayer.

Influenced by her grandmother, Hana Iida aspired to pursue the Tsugaru shamisen at the age of 13. Numerous victories in national competitions are a testament to her prowess. She actively participates in community activities, promoting the appeal of the Tsugaru shamisen. The desire to preserve and continually evolve Japan's traditional culture drives her pure and powerful sound. The melodies of the Tsugaru shamisen echo through Yoshinoyama, captivating the audience.

Since elementary school, Masayuki Murashita has been familiar with the wadaiko and has honed his skills in the Tsugaru shamisen. He formed the traditional music unit "RENPU," centered around the wadaiko and Tsugaru shamisen, in 2003. He aims to convey the allure of Japan's traditional performing arts and classical instruments to the younger generation, actively participating in school performances. He currently lives with his family in both Japan and Australia, and his activities have expanded further internationally. At this event, he will also host hands-on workshops where participants from overseas can experience the sounds of traditional Japanese instruments.

During his high school years, Atsunobu Saeki aspired to live a life deeply intertwined with music and joined a local taiko team in Osaka. He also dedicates himself to guiding taiko teams and planning events. His captivating drumming, blending strength and delicacy, draws listeners in.

Daisuke Yoneya began studying minyo (Japanese folk songs) during childhood, influenced by his mother. He became an accredited master in 2000 and, in 2014, began his activities as a master instructor of the Yoneya school of shakuhachi. In recent years, his work has expanded to include appearance on NHK's folk song TV programs, radio broadcasts, performances with enka singers, and folk song recitals. At Yoshinoyama, Yoneya will showcase a live performance, allowing the audience to experience the depth of local arts through the simple yet resonant tones of the bamboo flute.

Yosuke Inoue was previously a member of the taiko performing arts ensemble "Kodo," where he performed in 44 prefectures across Japan, 13 states in the United States, and 10 countries in Europe. His dynamic performances, skillfully playing the wadaiko and chappa (small cymbals introduced during the Nara period), captivate the audience.

Many fans are captivated by the passionate and beautiful melodies of the "Jusqu'à Sound," which incorporates diverse musical elements. Their performance envelops listeners with a profound and expansive sound, achieved by just two individuals-a unique expression of their worldview that is highly esteemed. They annually hold a dedication live performance at Yoshinoyama during the cherry blossoms' full bloom, reflecting a deep reverence and affection for Yoshino's cherry trees, nature, and history.

Yuya KAGO is a tenor singer. He has performed the role of Beppe in the opera Rita and Peppe in Pagliacci, and has also taken on a solo in Mozart's Requiem. His work spans a wide range of genres, including opera, theater, musicals, and immersive theater. At the YOSHINO 20 ART FESTIVAL, he will perform in a session with Jusqu'à Grand-Père. The vibrant voices of youth will resonate harmoniously with the nature of Yoshino.

Robert Essel
Duo YUMENO is based in New York and Japan. They have commissioned many works from leading contemporary composers such as, Toshi Ichiyanagi and Daron Hagen. Their wide-ranging musicality has received high praise from sources including The New York Times. In 2019, they held their 10th anniversary recital at Carnegie Hall. In 2024, the major classical label NAXOS will release their Heike Quinto. At Yoshinoyama, they will showcase a special program that bridges tradition and modernity.

In addition to solo recitals and chamber music performances, Keiko Nakagawa has extensive experience collaborating with numerous orchestras. Since 2000, she has served as the principal flutist of the Malaysian National Symphony Orchestra. She initiated Malaysia's first flute festival, commemorating the 50th anniversary of friendship between Japan and Malaysia. In recognition of her efforts to promote cultural exchange between the two nations, she was awarded the Minister for Foreign Affairs Award in 2016. Her flute melodies will resonate with the nature and history of Yoshinoyama.

Tomoki Suzuki is a rising ukulele performer known for his theme, "Ukulele but Pop." From gentle tones to aggressive performances that defy the typical image of the ukulele, his unique sound captivates many fans. He first encountered the ukulele in 2013. In just two and a half years, he became Japan's top ukulele player, and in 2016, he was crowned the world champion at an international competition. He is dedicated to promoting the ukulele through various channels, including a YouTube channel, live performances, and workshops.

A special unit formed by three oboe players: Chika Kobayashi, Sawako Higashiguchi, and Nanae Inuma.
Each musician, highly experienced in concert performances, engages in various musical endeavors and actively dedicates themselves to training the next generation.
The beautiful tones of the oboe, performed by this special unit created exclusively for this event, blend seamlessly with the English horn, harmonizing with the nature and history of Yoshinoyama.

Hiromi Toge is a violinist. She has received high accolades, including the Newcomer Award at the Asia International Music Concert and first prizes in several competitions. In addition to participating in various events, she engages in a wide range of activities, such as visiting childcare facilities and performing at elementary schools. She is also a certified instructor of the Toho Namba Jutsu violin body exercise, and researches performance techniques that incorporate traditional Japanese body movements to reduce physical strain.

Ayatoru Kangendan is an innovative unit that weaves together sounds from three instruments rooted in different parts of the world. The trio, who are actively involved in diverse performances, including music production and international concerts, embellish their pieces with impressive improvisation. Embraced by the mountains of Yoshino, their intertwining melodies, resonating with nature, create a joyful and unique moment, special to this day and hour.
